How can I be sure Jennifer is a good fit for me?
You can read more about Jennifer on her About page, or request a free 15-minute phone consultation to talk with her personally.
How much do sessions cost?
Payments can be made by cash, check, and all major credit cards.
Should I schedule a 50-minute or 75-minute session?
Individual counseling sessions are typically 50 minutes long and 75 minutes is recommended for couples' in-office sessions. However, clients may choose alternative session lengths.
Do you offer video sessions?
Yes! You can use the client portal system (for new clients and established clients) to set up either office or virtual (video) sessions.
If you schedule a video appointment with Jennifer, your appointment confirmation will include a link for logging in to the video conference at the appointment time. (If you have opted in to receive email reminders, you'll be sent the link again 24 hours in advance.) As long as you have a good internet connection, you can use your computer, tablet, or smartphone to join the video session. For Couples: Both may share the same device, or each may join the video session using separate tablets or computers (since a phone screen is likely not large enough to show all participants).
Video sessions are secure and confidential (HIPPA compliant). For complete information & help, download the Telehealth Guide (PDF).
Why do you ask for credit card information?
Your credit card is not charged prior to your scheduled appointment, but we require the information for two reasons:
What about missed appointments?
A 24-hour notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment is required. Missed appointments or late cancellations will be charged 1/2 the counselor's full session fee. (For new clients, the payment can be applied to a rescheduled appointment. For clients on scholarship, the penalty fee will not exceed their approved scholarship rate.)
I need counseling but can't afford it. Are there other options?
Yes. We have a limited number of scholarships available and we can also recommend resources that provide free or discounted rates. For more information, see our Reduced Fees page.
Do you accept insurance?
Jennifer provides counseling on a fee-for-service basis and does not accept third-party payments. She can, however, provide clients with insurance-ready receipts to be submitted to their insurance provider for out-of-network coverage. Check with your insurance provider to determine the specifics of your coverage/reimbursement.
How many session will I need?
Frequency of sessions (monthly, bi-weekly, weekly, etc.) will be decided by you and your counselor. The length of therapy varies with each client depending on his/her needs and therapeutic goals. In the end, though, YOU are in control of your appointments.
How do I use the Client Portal?
The online portal allows clients to access their information, documents, scheduling, and billing information. The portal service used, Simple Practice, focuses on the particular needs of the counseling community. They have provided the following guides (PDF docs) to help clients use their portal:
Are my sessions confidential?
Absolutely. Information about you is never released to anyone without your written permission. Everything said in therapy is confidential and will not be disclosed except when reporting is required or permitted by the HIPAA Privacy Standard or Florida state law.
Exceptions to confidentiality include the following: suspected abuse of a child, developmentally disabled person, or a dependent adult; potential suicidal behavior; threatened harm to another, which may include knowledge that the client is HIV positive when there is an unwillingness to inform individuals with whom the client is intimately involved; and when required by compulsory process
Information may also be disclosed if you sign a written authorization or in the event that you file a complaint against your counselor. Payment by check, bank or credit card allows bank employees to view names of Current Counseling clients. If you have caller identification on your phone, the name of the agency may appear on the monitor.
In keeping with generally accepted standards of practice, supervision and consultation may be made regarding the management of your treatment with other mental health professionals who are bound by the same rules of confidentiality.
In some situations cell phones may be used by counselors to contact clients. Please note that e-mail is NOT a confidential means of communication.
